As seen in the image below, the far right column contains green, yellow and red icons, which we refer to as "traffic lights". Green light means all is good and well, no changes are required. Yellow lights are for smaller changes, or ones that aren't immediately critical. The red light is for critical changes that need to be implemented as soon as possible for better optimisation.

There are seven sections in our Review, below is some brief information about each one.

Section 1 - Home Page

This section has five areas of concern; the URL, Page Title, Site Navigation, Home Page Content and the Source Code. Being the home page, this is the key page you want to show up on search engines, and it is critical that this page is optimised to the max.

Section 2 - robots.txt File

Every website should have a robots.txt file in their root directory. Some websites, such as Squarespace websites, come with a pre-made robots.txt file and do not require user input. The robots.txt file is a set of instructions to search engine crawlers, telling them where they can and cannot crawl and take information from. If written incorrectly your site will not be crawled to the optimum degree.

Section 3 - Canonicalization Issues

When a user types in a URL into the address bar, if they do or do not add "www." at the start, they can be redirected to another site. This is not ideal, for both search engines and user access. We check this.

Section 4 - Sitemap (if present)

If a sitemap is present on your website, it will get crawled, and as such needs to be able to provide useful data to search engines. Keywords, Links and Pages are the three areas that are covered in the sitemap optimisation. If you do not have a sitemap, this section is not applicable. We will not create a sitemap for you as a part of the optimisation process.

Sections 5 & 6 - Check Category/1st Level Pages & Product/2nd Level Pages

In these sections we take four different pages from your site, two first level and two second level pages. On each of these pages we go through a list of criteria, making sure that the pages are all unified and crawler-friendly. By identifying two pages of each level, we can usually ascertain as to whether or not the pages on your website all match and are cohesive.

Note: If you choose to further use our services and purchase our Optimising Package, this section may require rewriting parts or entire pages of content on your site. As such, we may require you to provide extra information that will be specified when you buy our product.

Section 7 - Search Engine Search

For this, we search your site on the three main search engines; Google, Yahoo and Bing. We then analyse the results from each engine and note if there are any outstanding differences between the three.
